“Wearing thin, moisture-wicking layers in the fall when working out will help keep you dry and warm, without overheating, which is essential,” says Toronto-based certified Pilates instructor and fitness expert Michelle Jobin, who recommends starting with extra layers that you can easily take off as you get warm and put back on as you cool back down.
“Having a layer to put on after your workout is also important—if you cool down too quickly (the colder weather and sweaty skin can speed this up), the lactic acid that has accumulated in your muscles won’t disperse as quickly,” she adds, “which can add to muscle soreness post-exercise. So staying warm will make you feel better, longer. And more ready for your next workout.”
